Yoshiaki Yamada is a Japanese translator working from English and French, with nonfiction translations in economics, politics, history, and art. In Gabriel Zucman’s “Chofuyuso ni wa Kazei seyo,” he introduces an analysis of how billionaires avoid income tax and an argument for taxing their wealth. His translations and collaborative translations also include Zucman and Emmanuel Saez’s work on inequality and tax policy, and Thomas Piketty’s “The Economics of Inequality.” Beyond economics, he has translated Bernadette Murphy’s investigation of the events surrounding Van Gogh’s ear and Peter Zeihan’s account of geopolitical and economic change. These works examine how evidence, institutions, and historical structures shape public understanding.
