略歴（Biography）

山岡淳一郎（やまおかじゅんいちろう、1959年 - ）は、日本のノンフィクション作家。愛媛県生まれ。出版関連会社、ライター集団を経て独立し、「人と時代」「公と私」を共通テーマに、政治、経済、医療、エネルギー、建築、近現代史など幅広い分野を取材・執筆してきた。政治家や経営者、医師などの評伝にも取り組み、個人の歩みを、その人物が生きた時代や社会制度の変化と重ね合わせて描いている。代表作『後藤新平日本の羅針盤となった男』では、医師から官僚へ転じ、台湾民政長官、満鉄総裁、東京市長などを歴任した後藤新平の生涯をたどり、衛生行政、植民地経営、都市計画、関東大震災後の帝都復興などを通して、近代日本の国家と都市の形成に後藤がどのように関わったのかを描いている。

Junichiro Yamaoka (born 1959) is a Japanese nonfiction writer. Born in Ehime Prefecture, he worked for a publishing-related company and a writers' collective before becoming an independent writer. With "people and their times" and the relationship between the public and private spheres as recurring themes, he has written across a wide range of subjects, including politics, economics, medicine, energy, architecture, and modern Japanese history. He has also written biographies of politicians, business leaders, and physicians, placing individual lives within the broader institutions and historical changes that shaped their times. In "Goto Shinpei: Nihon no Rashinban to Natta Otoko," Yamaoka traces the life of Shinpei Goto, a physician who became a statesman and served as civil administrator of Taiwan, president of the South Manchuria Railway, and mayor of Tokyo, examining his role in public health, colonial administration, urban planning, and the reconstruction of Tokyo after the Great Kanto Earthquake.
