Shu Yamaguchi (1970–) is an independent researcher, author, and public speaker. After studying philosophy at Keio University and completing a master’s degree in aesthetics and art history, he worked for Dentsu and the Boston Consulting Group before establishing his current career at the intersection of the humanities and management science. In “Why Do the World’s Elites Train Their Sense of Beauty?” (『世界のエリートはなぜ「美意識」を鍛えるのか?』), he examines the roles of aesthetic judgment, intuition, and the humanities in management decisions. In “The Age of the New Type” (『ニュータイプの時代』), he explores the shift in values and thinking required in a mature society. Books such as “Philosophy as a Weapon” (『武器になる哲学』) and “Techniques of Self-Education for Enhancing Intellectual Combat Power” (『知的戦闘力を高める 独学の技法』) present philosophy, art history, and intellectual history as tools for thinking about work and contemporary society. Yamaguchi reconsiders management and career issues through the perspectives of the humanities and social change.
