Hiroo Yamagata (1964–) is a Japanese critic and translator. He has translated influential works in economics, social science, computer science, and science fiction while writing extensively on public policy, economics, and technology. Through his translations of authors such as Thomas Piketty and Douglas Rushkoff, he has played an important role in introducing major international works to Japanese readers. His best-known book, "Shin Kyoyoshugi Sengen" ("A Declaration of the New Liberal Arts"), argues for the value of broad intellectual inquiry beyond disciplinary boundaries and examines the role of liberal education in contemporary society.
