Yefu (born Zheng Shiping in 1962) is a Chinese independent writer, poet, and journalist. Born in Lichuan County, Hubei Province, he graduated from Wuhan University and worked in public security before resigning in response to the 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown. After managing a publishing business, he devoted himself to writing. In the Japanese collection “Choko ni Kieta Haha,” he draws on memory and testimony to recount the lives of his mother, relatives, and friends, whose fates were shaped by land reform, the Cultural Revolution, and other upheavals in modern Chinese history. The collection on which the Japanese edition is based received the nonfiction prize at the 2010 Taipei International Book Exhibition.
