山下文男（やました・ふみお、1924–2011）は、日本の津波災害史研究家、ノンフィクション作家。岩手県三陸町（現・大船渡市）生まれ。幼少期に昭和三陸地震津波を体験し、その経験を原点として津波の歴史と防災を生涯にわたり研究した。1980年代以降は歴史地震研究会の会員として文献調査や現地調査を重ね、「津波てんでんこ」の教えを全国に広めることに尽力した。在野の研究者として、防災教育や津波伝承の重要性を訴え続け、『津波ものがたり』『津波てんでんこ―近代日本の津波史』『君子未然に防ぐ―地震予知の先駆者 今村明恒の生涯』などを著した。

Fumio Yamashita (1924–2011) was a Japanese historian of tsunami disasters and nonfiction writer. Born in Sanriku, Iwate Prefecture, he experienced the 1933 Shōwa Sanriku tsunami as a child, an event that shaped his lifelong commitment to documenting the history of tsunamis and promoting disaster preparedness. As an independent researcher and member of the Historical Earthquake Research Society, he conducted extensive archival and field research and played a key role in popularizing the principle of "tsunami tendenko"—the idea that people should evacuate immediately and independently when a tsunami strikes. His major works include Tsunami Monogatari (Stories of Tsunamis), Tsunami Tendenko: A Modern History of Tsunamis in Japan, and Prevent Disaster Before It Happens: The Life of Akitsune Imamura, Pioneer of Earthquake Prediction.
