She made her literary debut in 2005 after “Man Ītā,” later retitled "Kimi wa Eien ni Soitsura yori Wakai" for book publication, received the Dazai Osamu Prize. Her representative novel, "Suishagoya no Nene," won the Tanizaki Junichiro Prize and follows eighteen-year-old Risa and her eight-year-old sister Ritsu as they leave their self-centered mother, build a life in a mountain town with the help of its residents and a talking bird named Nene, and pass those networks of care to another generation over forty years.
