Taro Tsurumi (born 1982) is a Japanese historian and Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the University of Tokyo. After graduating from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, he earned a Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo. His research focuses on Russian and East European history, Jewish history, Zionism, and the Israel–Palestine conflict, with particular emphasis on ethnicity, nationalism, and Jewish communities in the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. Widely respected for his rigorous archival research and accessible writing, he has helped bring the complex history of Eastern Europe and the Jewish world to a broader audience. His notable books include "The Imagination of Russian Zionism," "The Origins of Israel," and "A History of the Jewish People."
