Tsunogai Takahiro is a writer who has traveled across Japan photographing wooden school buildings. Over 15 years, he visited more than 1,200 schools. His photo book “Nihon Mokuzo Kosha Taizen: Natsukashi Kosha o Meguru Tabi” presents buildings from the Meiji through the Showa periods and looks closely at classrooms, corridors, stairways, and schoolyards. It also records schools across the seasons and shows what became of buildings that were demolished or given new uses.
