Kōtarō Takamura (1883–1956) was a Japanese poet, sculptor, painter, and art critic. Born in Tokyo as the eldest son of the renowned sculptor Kōun Takamura, he studied at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts before continuing his artistic education in Europe and the United States. His poetry collection Dōtei (The Journey) established him as one of the leading poets of modern Japan, while his work as a sculptor and critic also left a lasting mark on Japanese art. In Chieko's Sky (Chieko-shō), he expressed his profound love for and loss of his wife through deeply moving poems that continue to resonate with readers. His lifelong pursuit of artistic and spiritual truth has secured his place as one of the defining figures of modern Japanese literature.
