Ichiro Tanioka (1956–) is a Japanese sociologist specializing in criminology, social research methods, and gambling studies. He has served as professor and president of Osaka University of Commerce and later as an executive of the Tanioka Gakuen educational foundation. Widely recognized as a leading authority on gambling research in Japan, his work also examines crime, risk, and the interpretation of social data. His best-known book, "The Lies of Social Research: A Guide to Research Literacy", explains how to critically interpret opinion polls and survey data, helping readers develop a more informed understanding of statistical evidence.
