Itoe Takemoto is a Japanese manga artist and illustrator from Osaka Prefecture. She has worked primarily on manga adaptations of novels, visualizing character development together with the ecosystems and social structures of fictional worlds. Her representative work, "The Beast Player," is an eleven-volume manga based on the novel by Nahoko Uehashi and illustrated and adapted by Takemoto. It follows Erin, a girl who loses her mother, a caretaker of the battle beasts known as Toda, and later forms an extraordinary bond with a sacred Royal Beast named Lilan. Through Erin’s growth, the story examines rules designed to control animals and a political system that uses the Toda and Royal Beasts as instruments of authority and warfare, while Takemoto gives visual form to the creatures’ distinct movements, expressions, and relationships with humans.
