Yuriko Takeda (1925–1993) A Japanese essayist born in Yokohama. In 1951, she married the novelist Taijun Takeda and assisted his work by driving on research trips and taking down his dictated manuscripts. After his death, she emerged as a writer in her own right with "Fuji Nikki," which received the Tamura Toshiko Prize, while "Inu ga Hoshi Mita: Russia Ryoko" won the Yomiuri Prize for Literature. Her writing is distinguished by close observation of everyday life, capturing meals, shopping, conversations, changing seasons, and unexpected details with a distinctive sensibility. In "Fuji Nikki," she records thirteen years spent with her husband at their cottage near Mount Fuji, moving through encounters with friends and neighbors, the death of a beloved dog, food and seasonal changes, and finally her husband's illness and their last days together.
