Akihiro Takahashi (1931–2011) A Japanese atomic-bomb survivor and peace activist. At the age of fourteen, he was exposed to the atomic bombing of Hiroshima while at the Hiroshima Municipal Junior High School, about 1.4 kilometers from the hypocenter, and suffered severe burns. After the war, he worked for the City of Hiroshima and served as director of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum from 1979 to 1983. For decades, he spoke about his experience in Japan and abroad, documenting the human consequences of the bombing and advocating the abolition of nuclear weapons. In "Kimi wa Hiroshima o Mita ka: Hiroshima Genbaku Shiryokan," co-authored with an NHK reporting team, his own experience of August 6, 1945 serves as a starting point for an account of the bombing told through survivors' belongings, photographs, and testimonies.
