Diane McWhorter（ダイアン・マクウォーター、1952年生まれ）は、アメリカのジャーナリスト、歴史作家。アラバマ州バーミングハム生まれ。ウェルズリー大学卒業後、Time 誌の記者を経て、南部アメリカの公民権運動、人種問題、政治史をテーマに執筆活動を続けている。豊富な史料と関係者への綿密な取材に基づく歴史ノンフィクションで高く評価され、2001年刊行の『Carry Me Home: Birmingham, Alabama: The Climactic Battle of the Civil Rights Revolution』は、公民権運動の転換点となった1963年のバーミングハム闘争を描いた記念碑的作品として、2002年のピューリッツァー賞 一般ノンフィクション部門を受賞した。著書に『Carry Me Home』などがある。
Diane McWhorter (born 1952) is an American journalist and historian. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, she graduated from Wellesley College and began her career as a reporter for Time magazine before turning to long-form historical nonfiction. Her work focuses on the American South, the Civil Rights Movement, race relations, and political history. Renowned for her meticulous archival research and deeply reported narrative, she won the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction for "Carry Me Home: Birmingham, Alabama: The Climactic Battle of the Civil Rights Revolution," a landmark account of the 1963 Birmingham campaign and its pivotal role in the struggle for civil rights in the United States. Her work is widely regarded as one of the definitive histories of the Civil Rights Movement.
