ダニエル・J・ケヴルズ（1939年–）は、アメリカの科学史家。カリフォルニア工科大学教授を経て、イェール大学名誉教授を務め、物理学、遺伝学、優生学の歴史と、科学が政治、法律、倫理、社会制度に及ぼす影響を研究してきた。『優生学の名のもとに――「人類改良」の悪夢の百年』（In the Name of Eugenics: Genetics and the Uses of Human Heredity）では、英米の優生思想が遺伝学と結びつき、移民制限や強制不妊手術、ナチスの人種政策へと利用された過程を検証するとともに、戦後の遺伝カウンセリングや生殖技術に残る問題をたどった。同書は1985年全米図書賞ノンフィクション部門の最終候補作となった。
Daniel J. Kevles (born 1939) is an American historian of science and professor emeritus at Yale University, following a long career at the California Institute of Technology. His research examines the history of physics, genetics, and eugenics, as well as the interaction of science with politics, law, ethics, and social institutions. In “In the Name of Eugenics: Genetics and the Uses of Human Heredity,” Kevles traces how eugenic ideas in Britain and the United States became linked to genetics and were used to justify immigration restrictions, compulsory sterilization, and Nazi racial policy. He also follows their legacy into postwar genetic counseling and reproductive technology. The book was a finalist for the 1985 National Book Award for Nonfiction.
