Dana Spiotta (1966–) is an American novelist. Born in New Jersey, she teaches creative writing at Syracuse University. “Eat the Document,” which follows two former antiwar radicals who went underground in the 1970s, was a finalist for the National Book Award and won the American Academy of Arts and Letters’ Rosenthal Foundation Award. “Stone Arabia,” about an unsuccessful rock musician and his sister, was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award, while “Innocents and Others,” centered on filmmaking and female friendship, won the St. Francis College Literary Prize. Against the background of music, cinema, political activism, and popular culture, her fiction examines memory, self-invention, family relationships, and the influence of media on personal identity.
