DOUBLE-S（ダブルエス）は、韓国出身の漫画家。日本の漫画原作者と協働し、2005年から2015年まで、たかしげ宙原作の近未来アクション漫画『死がふたりを分かつまで』の作画を担当した。代表作『イサック』は、真刈信二の原作をDOUBLE-Sが漫画化した歴史活劇で、三十年戦争下の神聖ローマ帝国へ渡った日本人の鉄砲鍛冶職人イサックが、奪われた火縄銃を追い、傭兵として戦場を渡り歩く姿を描く。銃の構造や射撃技術、攻城戦、宗教対立を背景とした軍事行動を、緻密な作画と迫力ある戦闘場面によって視覚化した。同作は、日本の原作者と韓国の作画家による国境を越えた分業作品として、2018年に第2回さいとう・たかを賞を受賞した。

DOUBLE-S is a South Korean manga artist who has collaborated with Japanese manga writers. From 2005 to 2015, DOUBLE-S illustrated the science-fiction action series “Until Death Do Us Part,” written by Hiroshi Takashige. The representative work “Issak,” written by Shinji Makari and illustrated by DOUBLE-S, is a historical action manga set in the Holy Roman Empire during the Thirty Years’ War. It follows Issak, a Japanese gunsmith who travels to Europe in pursuit of a stolen matchlock and fights as a mercenary marksman. Detailed depictions of firearms, shooting techniques, siege warfare, and military operations shaped by religious conflict give the series its visual and historical texture. Created through a cross-border division of labor between a Japanese writer and a South Korean artist, “Issak” received the second Saito Takao Award in 2018.
