Oniroku Dan (1931–2011) was a Japanese novelist, screenwriter, and film producer whose real name was Yukihiko Kuroiwa. After graduating from Kwansei Gakuin University and working in several occupations, including teaching, he began his literary career when his story “Oyakodon” received recognition in a Bungeishunju newcomers’ competition in 1957. His representative work, “Hana to Hebi” (Flower and Snake), was serialized in the magazine “Kitan Club” and established his distinctive form of erotic fiction centered on bondage, domination, and submission. Its numerous film adaptations and his work in publishing and filmmaking helped shape postwar Japanese S&M literature and popular culture.
