Toru Seino (born 1980) is a Japanese manga artist from Itabashi, Tokyo, who lives in the Akabane district of Kita Ward. Seino made a professional debut while still in high school with “Aniki no Kisetsu” in 1998 and has since developed a form of autobiographical manga built on close observation, encounters with unusual people, and absurd humor. “Tokyo-to Kita-ku Akabane” was adapted into a television docudrama in 2015, while “Sono Okodawari, Ore ni mo Kure yo!!” and “Tokyo Kaiki Zake” also inspired television series. “Danmitsu,” which recounts Seino’s relationship and married life with entertainer Danmitsu, placed fifth in the 2026 Manga Taisho. The representative work “Tokyo-to Kita-ku Akabane” records Seino’s walks through local restaurants, alleyways, and other corners of Akabane, focusing on the eccentric residents and strange events encountered in the course of everyday life.
