Yasuhide Saeki (born 1942) is a Japanese novelist known for historical fiction. After graduating from the Department of Cinema at Nihon University College of Art, he worked as a photographer and spent time in Spain and France, where bullfighting became one of his principal subjects. He later turned to fiction, initially writing adventure and international intrigue novels before beginning to concentrate on historical fiction in 1999. He has since produced numerous series featuring swordsmen, ronin, and townspeople living in Edo-period Japan, becoming one of the leading authors of historical fiction written specifically for paperback publication. His best-known work, the "Inemuri Iwane" series, follows Iwane Sakazaki, a samurai forced to become a ronin after a tragedy in his home domain. Starting a new life in Edo and supporting himself through various jobs, including work as a bodyguard, Iwane becomes involved in a succession of incidents while the series depicts the everyday lives of Edo's residents, personal loyalties, the constraints of samurai society, and his continuing ties to the people he left behind.
