サラ・ビルストン（Sarah Bilston、1973年 - ） イギリスの作家、ヴィクトリア朝文学研究者。ロンドン大学ユニバーシティ・カレッジで学び、オックスフォード大学サマーヴィル・カレッジで博士号を取得。アメリカのトリニティ・カレッジ（コネチカット州）英文学教授を務め、ヴィクトリア朝文学、女性文学、郊外文化史を専門として研究と教育に携わっている。文学史や文化史に埋もれた人物や出来事を掘り起こし、綿密な史料調査と物語性を融合させたノンフィクションで高い評価を受けている。代表作 "The Lost Orchid: A Story of Victorian Plunder and Obsession" は、19世紀に熱狂的なブームを巻き起こしたラン収集を題材に、植物採集、帝国主義、科学、商業が交錯するヴィクトリア時代の知られざる歴史を描いたノンフィクションである。本書は『ニューヨーカー』や『エコノミスト』の2025年ベストブックに選ばれた。
Sarah Bilston (born 1973) is a British writer, literary scholar, and Professor of English at Trinity College in Connecticut. She studied at University College London before earning her D.Phil. from the University of Oxford. A specialist in Victorian literature and culture, her research explores nineteenth-century women's writing, suburban history, and the cultural history of plants, while her nonfiction combines meticulous archival scholarship with engaging storytelling. Her best-known recent book, "The Lost Orchid: A Story of Victorian Plunder and Obsession," recounts the nineteenth-century obsession with a rare orchid, revealing how botanical exploration, imperial ambition, commerce, and scientific discovery became intertwined during the Victorian era. The book was named one of the best books of 2025 by both *The New Yorker* and *The Economist*.
