サフィヤ・U・ノーブル（Safiya U. Noble）は、アメリカのインターネット研究者、情報学者。カリフォルニア大学ロサンゼルス校（UCLA）でジェンダー研究、アフリカ系アメリカ人研究、情報学の教授を務め、検索エンジンやAIなどのデジタル技術が、人種、ジェンダー、経済格差、社会的権力とどのように結びついているかを研究している。イリノイ大学アーバナ・シャンペーン校で図書館情報学の博士号を取得。2021年には、アルゴリズムによる差別に関する研究によりマッカーサー・フェローに選出された。代表作『抑圧のアルゴリズム 検索エンジンは人種主義をいかに強化するか』（原題 "Algorithms of Oppression: How Search Engines Reinforce Racism"）では、検索エンジンを中立的な情報検索の仕組みとして捉える見方を問い直し、商業的利益や社会に存在する偏見が検索結果やアルゴリズムに組み込まれることで、人種差別やジェンダー差別がデジタル空間で再生産される仕組みを明らかにした。
Safiya U. Noble is an American internet studies scholar and information scientist whose research examines the relationships among digital technology, race, gender, economic inequality, and social power. She is a professor of Gender Studies, African American Studies, and Information Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and holds a Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In 2021, she was named a MacArthur Fellow for her research on algorithmic discrimination. In "Algorithms of Oppression: How Search Engines Reinforce Racism," Noble challenges the idea that search engines are neutral systems for organizing information, showing how commercial interests and existing social biases can become embedded in search algorithms and results, reproducing racial and gender discrimination in the digital environment.
