Safiya Sinclair (born 1984) is a Jamaican poet and memoirist. Raised in Montego Bay, she studied at Bennington College, the University of Virginia, and the University of Southern California, and is now a professor of creative writing at Arizona State University. Her work explores colonialism, race, gender, religion, and identity through richly lyrical prose and poetry. Her memoir *How to Say Babylon* recounts her upbringing under a strict Rastafarian father and her journey toward artistic and personal freedom. The book won the National Book Critics Circle Award for Autobiography and was named one of *The New York Times*' 100 Notable Books of 2023 as well as one of *TIME*'s Top 10 Nonfiction Books of 2023.
