佐藤 佐三郎（SATO Sasaburo）- ジャーナリスト、翻訳家

佐藤 佐三郎は、経済ジャーナリズムと翻訳に携わった人物。1933年、静岡県生まれ。1956年に早稲田大学第一政治経済学部を卒業して東洋経済新報社に入り、国内産業・国際経済の取材を担当した。政経部長、『週刊東洋経済』編集長、関西支社長を経て1993年に退職し、フリーで執筆や講演を行った。訳書のマーチン・ファン・クレフェルト『補給戦』は、食糧や弾薬、輸送能力などの制約から近代の軍事作戦を検証する軍事史である。戦略や指揮官の判断に加え、軍隊を実際に動かす物資と組織の条件を問う同書は、2022年に増補新版が刊行された。

Sasaburo Sato worked in economic journalism and translation. Born in Shizuoka Prefecture in 1933, he graduated from Waseda University’s School of Political Science and Economics in 1956 and joined Toyo Keizai. He reported on Japanese industry and international economics, subsequently serving as a department head, editor of Weekly Toyo Keizai, and head of its Kansai office. After leaving the company in 1993, he worked independently as a writer and lecturer. His translation of Martin van Creveld’s Supplying War examines military campaigns through food, ammunition, transport, and other logistical constraints. An expanded Japanese edition appeared in 2022, returning attention to the material and organizational conditions under which armies operate.
