佐藤 信（SATO Makoto）- 古代史学者、東京大学名誉教授

佐藤信（さとう・まこと、1952年生まれ）は、日本の歴史学者。東京大学名誉教授、横浜市歴史博物館館長、くまもと文学・歴史館館長。東京大学大学院人文科学研究科博士課程中退、博士（文学）。日本古代史を専門とし、木簡などの出土文字資料を用いた実証的研究の第一人者として知られる。古代国家の形成、都城制度、地方行政、東アジアとの交流など幅広いテーマを研究し、日本古代史研究を牽引してきた。一般読者向けにも『古代史講義』シリーズや『世界遺産の日本史』などを編著し、最新の研究成果をわかりやすく紹介している。

Makoto Sato (born 1952) is a Japanese historian specializing in the history of ancient Japan. He is Professor Emeritus at the University of Tokyo and has served as Director of the Yokohama History Museum and the Kumamoto Museum of Literature and History. He holds a Ph.D. in Literature and is widely recognized for his pioneering research on ancient Japanese history through the analysis of excavated wooden tablets (mokkan) and other archaeological written materials. His scholarship has advanced the study of the formation of the ancient Japanese state, urban development, local administration, and Japan's relations with East Asia. He has also edited and authored accessible works for general readers, including the Lectures on Ancient Japanese History (Kodai-shi Kōgi) series and A History of Japan through World Heritage Sites.
