Ronald Steel was a historian and critic of American foreign policy who taught at the University of Southern California. Walter Lippmann and the American Century followed the journalist's life, connecting his thinking about war, diplomacy and public opinion with political leaders and twentieth-century American history. It won the National Book Critics Circle Award. Temptations of a Superpower examined the choices surrounding American power after the Cold War. In Love with Night investigated Robert Kennedy and the memories formed around his life and death. Through books and essays, Steel brought scholarship into public debate about foreign policy and America's international role.
