Ronald C. Rosbottom (1942–) is an American scholar and historian specializing in French literature and European studies. He taught French and European studies at Amherst College, where he held the Winifred L. Arms Professorship in the Arts and Humanities. His “When Paris Went Dark: The City of Light Under German Occupation, 1940–1944” was longlisted for the National Book Award for Nonfiction. The book reconstructs everyday life in German-occupied Paris, examining how food shortages, curfews, censorship, and the persecution of Jews altered the city while its residents navigated the uncertain boundaries among compliance, collaboration, silence, and resistance.
