Robert Louis Stevenson（ロバート・ルイス・スティーヴンソン、1850年–1894年）は、スコットランドの小説家、詩人、エッセイスト。冒険小説や幻想文学の名手として知られ、『宝島』『ジキル博士とハイド氏』『誘拐されて』など、世界文学史に残る作品を数多く執筆した。鮮やかな物語展開と印象的な人物描写を特徴とし、善と悪、人間の二面性、冒険、自由といった普遍的なテーマを描いた作品は、後世の文学や大衆文化に大きな影響を与えた。晩年は南太平洋のサモアに移住し、創作活動を続けるとともに、植民地支配や現地社会をめぐる政治問題についても積極的に発言した。19世紀英語文学を代表する作家の一人として、現在も世界中で広く読まれている。
Robert Louis Stevenson (1850–1894) was a Scottish novelist, poet, and essayist. Renowned as a master of adventure fiction and fantastic literature, he wrote enduring classics such as Treasure Island, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and Kidnapped. His works are celebrated for their vivid storytelling, memorable characters, and exploration of universal themes including good and evil, the duality of human nature, adventure, and freedom. In his later years, Stevenson settled in Samoa, where he continued to write while becoming actively involved in political issues concerning colonial rule and local society. One of the leading figures of nineteenth-century literature in English, his works continue to be widely read and adapted around the world.
