Robert D. Putnam (born 1941) is an American political scientist and Professor Emeritus at Harvard Kennedy School. His research focuses on democracy, civic engagement, and social capital, examining how social connections shape political institutions and community life. His best-known book, "Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community," analyzes the decline of civic participation in the United States and argues that strong social networks are essential to a healthy democracy.
