Robert Coles（ロバート・コールズ、1929年生まれ）は、アメリカの精神科医、児童精神科医、作家。ハーバード大学名誉教授。ハーバード大学医学部を卒業後、児童精神医学を専門とし、長年にわたり子どもの発達、道徳教育、人種問題、貧困、社会正義をテーマに研究と臨床活動を続けてきた。公民権運動の現場で子どもたちへの聞き取り調査を行うなど、現実社会の中で生きる子どもたちの声を記録した先駆的研究で知られる。1977年刊行の『Children of Crisis』シリーズ第5巻 "Privileged Ones: The Well-Off and the Rich in America" は、アメリカ社会における子どもたちの生き方を描いた研究として高く評価され、1978年のピューリッツァー賞 一般ノンフィクション部門を受賞した。著書に『Children of Crisis』シリーズ、『The Moral Intelligence of Children』、『The Call of Stories』、『Lives of Moral Leadership』などがある。
Robert Coles (born 1929) is an American psychiatrist, child psychiatrist, and author. He is Professor Emeritus at Harvard University. After earning his medical degree from Harvard Medical School, he devoted his career to child psychiatry, studying children's moral development, poverty, race, education, and social justice. Widely recognized for documenting the lives of children during the American Civil Rights Movement, he combined clinical practice with firsthand interviews to illuminate how young people experience social change and inequality. His Children of Crisis series is regarded as a landmark in child psychology and social observation. The fifth volume, "Privileged Ones: The Well-Off and the Rich in America," received the 1978 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction. His other notable works include The Moral Intelligence of Children, The Call of Stories, and Lives of Moral Leadership.
