Laura Poppick（ローラ・ポピック） アメリカのサイエンス・環境ジャーナリスト。ベイツ大学で地質学を学び、カリフォルニア大学サンタクルーズ校でサイエンス・コミュニケーションを修了。プリンストン大学の地球史研究グループで研究補佐を務めた後、ジャーナリストへ転身した。『The New York Times』『Scientific American』『Smithsonian』『Wired』『National Geographic』『Science』など数多くの有力メディアに寄稿し、地球科学、気候変動、環境問題、生物多様性をテーマとした取材で知られる。代表作『Strata: Stories from Deep Time』（未邦訳）は、地層に刻まれた地球46億年の歴史をたどりながら、大気や海洋、生物、気候が織りなしてきた壮大な変化を描いたノンフィクションである。最先端の地質学研究と現場取材を融合させ、人類が直面する気候変動を「深い時間（Deep Time）」の視点から読み解く科学ノンフィクションとして高く評価されている。
Laura Poppick is an American science and environmental journalist. She earned a B.S. in geology from Bates College and completed the Science Communication Program at the University of California, Santa Cruz. After working with Princeton University's Earth History Group, she became a freelance journalist whose work has appeared in "The New York Times," "Scientific American," "Smithsonian," "Wired," "National Geographic," and "Science." Her reporting focuses on geology, climate change, environmental science, and biodiversity. Her best-known book, "Strata: Stories from Deep Time," explores four pivotal episodes in Earth's geological history through the stories preserved in sedimentary rocks. Blending field reporting with the latest geological research, the book offers a compelling perspective on Earth's past and the environmental challenges of the present.
