Ikumi Roellinghoff (born 1987) is a Japanese translator working on books, subtitles, and scripts. Originally from Saga Prefecture, she studied in Colorado as a university student and subsequently moved to Canada. She earned a master’s degree at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto. An interest in English-language storytelling led her into film and television work, including production, subtitling, and script translation for projects involving NBC, CBC, NHK, and the Toronto International Film Festival. She returned to Japan in 2020. Her translation of Miri Rodriguez’s “Brand Storytelling” examines marketing narratives that place customers, rather than companies, at their center. The book considers the changes products and services bring to people’s experiences. She also translated John Fitch and Max Frenzel’s “Time Off,” which investigates the relationship between work, rest, and creativity through historical figures and contemporary examples of deliberate time away from work.
