Miri Masuda (born 1969) is a Japanese illustrator, manga artist, and essayist from Osaka. Combining spare drawings with carefully observed dialogue and narration, she explores the small doubts and discomforts that arise around work, marriage, family, aging, and time spent alone. She received the Short Work Prize at the 28th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize for “Tsuyukusa Natsuko no Issho.” Her representative work, “Su-chan,” is a four-panel manga about a thirty-four-year-old café worker who remains uncertain about the life she wants while navigating workplace relationships, romance, and anxiety about growing older; the series was later adapted into the film “Sue, Mai & Sawa: Righting the Girl Ship.”
