Michael Cunningham（マイケル・カニンガム、1952年生まれ）は、アメリカの小説家。スタンフォード大学で英文学を学び、アイオワ大学のアイオワ・ライターズ・ワークショップで創作の修士号（M.F.A.）を取得した。愛、喪失、記憶、アイデンティティを繊細で詩的な文体で描く作品で高く評価され、現代アメリカ文学を代表する作家の一人とされる。1998年刊行の『The Hours』は、ヴァージニア・ウルフの『Mrs Dalloway』に着想を得て、異なる時代を生きる三人の女性の人生を描いた長編小説として高く評価され、1999年のピューリッツァー賞 フィクション部門およびPEN/Faulkner Award for Fictionを受賞した。同作は2002年に映画化され、世界的な成功を収めた。著書に『A Home at the End of the World』『Flesh and Blood』『The Hours』『Specimen Days』『By Nightfall』『The Snow Queen』『Day』などがある。

Michael Cunningham (born 1952) is an American novelist. After studying English literature at Stanford University, he earned an M.F.A. from the Iowa Writers' Workshop. Widely regarded as one of the leading contemporary American novelists, Cunningham is celebrated for his lyrical prose and profound explorations of love, loss, memory, identity, and the passage of time. His novel The Hours (1998), inspired by Virginia Woolf's Mrs Dalloway and intertwining the lives of three women across different eras, won both the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction. The novel was adapted into the acclaimed 2002 film The Hours. His other notable works include A Home at the End of the World, Flesh and Blood, Specimen Days, By Nightfall, The Snow Queen, and Day.
