Matthew Cobb (1957–) is a British zoologist and historian of science. Emeritus Professor of Zoology at the University of Manchester, he is known both for his research on animal behaviour and olfaction and for his widely acclaimed books on the history of biology and neuroscience. Combining scientific expertise with historical scholarship, he has become one of Britain's leading interpreters of the life sciences for general readers. His best-known book, "Life's Greatest Secret", recounts the race to decipher the genetic code, revealing how one of the twentieth century's greatest scientific breakthroughs transformed modern biology.
