Martin Seay is an American novelist and essayist originally from Texas. He holds undergraduate degrees from Trinity University and an MFA in creative writing from Queens University of Charlotte and was a fiction fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown in 2005–2006. His fiction, essays, and criticism have appeared in a variety of literary publications. His debut novel, "The Mirror Thief," was named a New York Times Book Review Notable Book and appeared on the year-end best-book lists of NPR and Publishers Weekly. Set in three different "Venices"—sixteenth-century Venice, Venice Beach in 1958, and the Venetian casino in Las Vegas in the early twenty-first century—the novel intertwines a plot to steal the secrets of Venetian mirror-making, a young man's search for an enigmatic poet, and a former Marine's pursuit of a missing gambler.
