Martha McPhee (1965–) is an American novelist whose work explores family relationships, memory, and the pursuit of social and financial success. She made her novel debut with “Bright Angel Time” in 1997. Its sequel, “Gorgeous Lies,” was a finalist for the 2002 National Book Award for Fiction, portraying a dying patriarch and the conflicting memories of a large blended family. In “Omega Farm: A Memoir,” she recounts returning to her childhood home during the pandemic to help care for her mother, who had dementia. Connecting the restoration of the family property and its woodland with an examination of her unconventional upbringing, McPhee explores the emotional legacies parents leave their children and the difficulties of confronting the past.
