Mark Z. Danielewski (1966–) is an American novelist. Born in New York City, he studied English literature at Yale University. His debut novel, “House of Leaves,” combines multiple narrators, extensive footnotes, and unconventional typography in a story centered on a nonexistent documentary film, and won the New York Public Library’s Young Lions Fiction Award. “Only Revolutions,” whose two narratives proceed from opposite sides of the book, was a finalist for the National Book Award. His fiction uses layered narratives, colored text, blank space, and shifting page layouts to make the physical form and reading order of a book part of the story.
