Mark Coeckelbergh is a Belgian philosopher of technology and Professor of Philosophy of Media and Technology at the University of Vienna. His research examines human relationships with AI and robots, moral responsibility in technological systems, and the effects of technology on democracy and the environment. He has also contributed to policymaking as a member of the European Commission’s High-Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence. In “AI Ethics,” Coeckelbergh moves beyond speculation about machines surpassing humanity to examine immediate concerns including algorithmic discrimination, privacy, changes in employment, and gaps in accountability, placing the design and use of AI within their broader social and political contexts.
