Margaret O'Mara (born 1970) is an American historian whose work examines the development of Silicon Valley and the relationship between technology, politics, and public policy. She is the Scott and Dorothy Bullitt Chair and Professor of American History at the University of Washington. She earned her Ph.D. in history from the University of Pennsylvania and, before entering academia, worked on economic and social policy in the Clinton administration. In "The Code: Silicon Valley and the Remaking of America," O'Mara traces roughly seven decades of Silicon Valley's history, showing how its rise was shaped not only by entrepreneurs and technological innovation but also by Cold War government investment, universities, venture capital, and an evolving relationship between the technology industry and American politics.
