Margaret Mitchell（マーガレット・ミッチェル、1900–1949） アメリカの小説家、ジャーナリスト。ジョージア州アトランタに生まれ、スミス大学で学んだ後、『The Atlanta Journal Sunday Magazine』で記者として活動した。負傷により新聞社を退職した後、自宅で長編小説の執筆に取り組み、1936年に発表したデビュー作『風と共に去りぬ』（原題: "Gone with the Wind"）は世界的なベストセラーとなった。翌1937年にはピューリッツァー賞（小説部門）を受賞し、1939年の映画化作品もアカデミー賞作品賞をはじめ数々の賞を受賞するなど、20世紀を代表する文学作品の一つとなった。生涯に発表した長編小説は『風と共に去りぬ』一作のみだが、その文学的・文化的影響は現在もなお大きい。
Margaret Mitchell (1900–1949) was an American novelist and journalist. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, she studied at Smith College before working as a reporter for "The Atlanta Journal Sunday Magazine." After leaving journalism because of an injury, she devoted herself to writing what became her only novel, "Gone with the Wind," published in 1936. The book became an international bestseller, won the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, and inspired the landmark 1939 film adaptation, which received multiple Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Although Mitchell published only one novel during her lifetime, "Gone with the Wind" remains one of the most influential and widely read works of twentieth-century American literature.
