Marcel Theroux (1968–) is a British-American novelist, journalist, and documentary filmmaker. Born in Kampala, Uganda, he spent his early childhood in Singapore and grew up in London. He won the Somerset Maugham Award for “The Confessions of Mycroft Holmes,” while his post-apocalyptic novel “Far North,” set in Siberia, was a finalist for the National Book Award. “Strange Bodies,” which explores the possibility of transferring a person’s consciousness into another body, won the John W. Campbell Memorial Award. Theroux has also made television documentaries in countries including Russia, Japan, and North Korea, examining identity, memory, belief, and the relationship between political systems and individual lives.
