Jiro Matsumoto (born 1970) is a Japanese manga artist. After receiving the runner-up prize in the general category of the Chiba Tetsuya Award in 1992, he developed a distinctive body of work portraying violence, war, madness, and social alienation through detailed, abrasive artwork and unsettling psychological narratives. “Freesia” is set in a near-future Japan where a law permits the families of murder victims to retaliate against offenders, following an execution agent and the psychological disintegration of both hunters and targets. The manga was adapted into a live-action film directed by Kazuyoshi Kumakiri in 2007.
