Teijiro Maekawa (1911–2004) was a Japanese historian specializing in European history. After graduating from the Faculty of Letters at Kyoto Imperial University, he served as an associate professor at Kyoto University’s Institute for Research in Humanities and later as a professor in its Faculty of Letters, eventually becoming professor emeritus. His research focused on the French Revolution and modern French history, examining not only the revolution’s political ideas and social structures but also the ways later historians interpreted the event. In Furansu Kakumeishi Kenkyu: Shigakushiteki Kenkyu, Maekawa compares accounts by historians including Jules Michelet and Alexis de Tocqueville, showing how their historical circumstances and political positions shaped their narratives of the revolution.
