Quinn Slobodian (1978–) A Canadian historian and professor of international history at Boston University. His research focuses on the history of neoliberalism and global capitalism, economic thought, and the relationship between states and markets. In "Globalists: The End of Empire and the Birth of Neoliberalism," he reframed neoliberalism not simply as an ideology of deregulation and smaller government but as a project to construct international institutions that could protect markets from democratic politics. In "Crack-Up Capitalism: Market Radicals and the Dream of a World Without Democracy," he examines special economic zones, tax havens, private cities, and other enclaves to trace efforts to fragment states and separate markets from democratic constraints. In "Muskism: A Guide for the Perplexed," co-authored with Ben Tarnoff, he treats Elon Musk as a figure emblematic of contemporary technological capitalism, examining how powerful technology companies can depend on the state while converting wealth and technological power into political influence.
