グレテル・アーリック（1946年–）は、アメリカのエッセイスト、詩人、映像作家。1975年、牧羊を題材とするドキュメンタリー制作のためワイオミング州を訪れ、その後は牧場で働きながら執筆を始めた。北極圏やアフリカ、日本などでも取材を重ね、自然環境の変化と、その土地に根差して暮らす人々の営みを描いている。『やすらかな大地』（The Solace of Open Spaces）は、厳しい風や寒さにさらされるワイオミングの自然、牧場労働、カウボーイや羊飼いたちの日常を、自身の喪失からの回復と重ねたエッセイ集。ホワイティング賞やPENニューイングランドのヘンリー・デイヴィッド・ソロー賞などを受賞している。
Gretel Ehrlich (born 1946) is an American essayist, poet, and filmmaker. She went to Wyoming in 1975 to make a documentary about sheep herders and remained there, working on ranches while beginning her writing career. Her later travels through the Arctic, Africa, Japan, and other regions have shaped her accounts of environmental change and of people whose lives depend closely on the land. In “The Solace of Open Spaces,” Ehrlich connects her recovery from personal loss with Wyoming’s severe weather, ranch work, and the daily lives of cowboys and sheepherders. Her honors include a Whiting Award and the PEN New England Henry David Thoreau Award for nature writing.
