Yoichi Komori (born 1953) is a Japanese scholar and critic specializing in modern Japanese literature. Born in Tokyo, he completed doctoral studies in literature at Hokkaido University and taught at Seijo University and the University of Tokyo, where he is now professor emeritus. His research closely examines narrative structure, style, tense, and point of view, particularly in the works of Natsume Soseki and Kenzaburo Oe, while relating literary language to the political institutions, wars, and social conditions of its time. He has also participated in civic movements concerning Japan’s Constitution and peace. Co-authored with Ryuichi Narita, his representative book, “Ōe Kenzaburō o Yomu: Bungaku to Rekishi no Fukuganteki Shiten kara,” combines literary analysis with modern history to examine how Japan’s postwar order, its relationship with the United States, nuclear weapons, and constitutional debates are embedded in Oe’s fiction.
