小林 秀雄（kobayashi hideo）- 文芸評論家、編集者、作家

小林秀雄（こばやし ひでお、1902–1983） 文芸評論家。日本の近代批評を切り開き、文学、美術、思想、歴史など幅広い分野にわたる評論を発表した。1947年に芸術院賞、1967年に文化勲章を受章。『本居宣長』は、本居宣長の著作や思想を丹念に読み解き、その学問や文学観を通して、日本人のものの見方や感じ方の源流に迫った代表作である。

Hideo Kobayashi (1902–1983) was a Japanese literary critic who transformed modern literary criticism in Japan. His essays ranged across literature, art, philosophy, and history, combining close reading with original intellectual inquiry. He received the Japan Art Academy Prize in 1947 and the Order of Culture in 1967. His best-known work, "Motoori Norinaga," offers a close reading of the eighteenth-century scholar's writings, exploring the foundations of Japanese aesthetics, scholarship, and ways of perceiving the world.
