Rikiya Go (born 1950) is a manga artist whose Osaka-based stories have explored relationships shaped by money and crime. Born in Osaka, he debuted in 1966, publishing girls’ manga under the pen name Fujio Kawabe. He later moved into manga for adult readers, including gambling gekiga. As the artist of “Minami no Teio,” written by Dai Tennoji, he depicted Ginjiro Manda, a high-interest moneylender operating in Osaka’s Minami district. Incorporating economic scandals, fraud, and changes in the law, the series ran in Weekly Manga Goraku from 1991 until February 2026 and concluded in 188 collected volumes. It also became a screen franchise starring Riki Takeuchi and a television drama starring Chihara Junior. In “Minami no Teio: Young-hen Riken Kuko,” Go portrayed Ginjiro before his moneylending career through a story of conflicts over vested interests in airport construction. On 20 February 2026, the week after the long-running series ended, he began his own “Jigoku Itchome Ichibanchi: Keiji Shikkaku.” Set in Osaka’s Minami district, it pairs detective Jirocho Kiyomizu with a paroled gangster, using prisoners’ abilities to investigate violent crime, including offences connected with illicit part-time recruitment.
